Quicken 2013

I just started Q 2012 and I did not get the pop-up! Maybe tomorrow.

Aargh. US-only iOS app. I want that as well, but am in UK. Bah.

Cheers, Ian

RC - I think the price you quote here was the same I found. When I clicked on the 'CD' version vs. web-delivery, the price didn't change. It doesn't matter, because I will most likely buy it at my local Staples store anyway, even if it is (Slightly) more expensive.

I was disappointed in the lack of Blackberry support since I do have one of those, not an iPhone or Droid. But I can live without access to my Q data away from the PC. But other than that, I too really didn't see much on the teaser details to say, gee, I got to get that on day 1. I hope there's more. As I transition to retirement, I wish Q would get it's s**t together regarding bond purchases!

(Call me crazy, but as you know, I tend to buy local even if it costs me a little more. I try to do my part to keep the local retails afloat.)

I saw the same thing - advertising I guess. I suspect that the price would have been list. Would rather wait and see what deals show up.

Your message reminded me that I said yesterday that I hadn't gotten this. So I just tried again closing and reopening Quicken 2012 Premier. This time I got the ad.

and computer? This may well be a suitable replacement for my old Pocket Quicken still functioning with Q2012D. Except..... it smells of dependence on cloud computing with our data "out there".

[snip]

The mobile app is probably the start of Intuit moving all its Quicken customers to "the cloud". A foot in the door, so to speak.

I got a Samsung Galaxy S3 to replace my old iPaq HW6515. So, unfortunately I had to give up on Pocket Quicken. I'm now using Financisto to capture my "on the road" expenses. At the end of the day Financisto exports the transactions to DropBox as a .qif file. All I have to do then is import the .qif file into my Quicken desktop.

It's not perfect, but at least I can keep track of my transactions while I'm away from th pc... Most importantly, it supports split transactions. In fact, in some ways it's better than Pocket Quicken - e.g. it has a "Templates" function for repeat transactions. Best of all, it's free and opn source. An no, this is not an ad! :-)

I'm not ready for the whole cloud thing yet. I want my Quicken data on my pc, so for now this seems to be working.

And yes, the Galaxy S3 is a stunning phone. I'm loving it. Did I mention that this is not an ad! :-)

That's unfortunate. But at least you have the option of upgrading - and all you have to do is click a button to upgrade.

It's a bit more difficult for me - I don't have an easy option to upgrade. I haven't had one since Intuit UK killed off their version of Quicken. I now literally have to convince Reckon in Australia to sell it to me. And they don't make it easy - or cheap. And they don't show much interest either...

The US version of Q has now multi-currency support of some kind. I'm keeping track of a European bank account right here (no direct imports of course). I can't see why you wouldn't be able to rig a US version for UK finaicial institutions, depending on the complexity of your situation. Of course UK country-specific tax-dependent info is not available in a US version.

LOL. Welcome to the torture chamber...

Do you mean no .qif imports? That totally kills it for me then.

That's fine. I've hacked the Australian version (2007) for my needs. Of course there's no online features - but then I've never had that luxury in Quicken...

I believe you can do qif imports of some kinds. They may need to go through a dummy account, or something may need to be edited in the qif file. If it were me, I'd just start with new acounts, with balances as of the most recent reconcile date.

Han, that is exactly what I, too, would do. Why some people HAVE to complicate everything, I do not know. Haven't they ever heard of KISS? (Keep it Simple, Silly) Will their world collapse if they can't put their entire financial life for their entire lifetime into Quicken?

I don't know why the app would be incompatible since the Galaxy is android unless it is an old version. That being said the app is not what it should be. I purchased 2013 install and tried using it. After using it a bit I uninstalled and am requesting a refund. The syncing is cumbersome and messed up my data. A much better combination is Moneydance and the Handy Bank application for android. The balance stays up to date while the Quicken 2013 app acts more like Mint and only keeps the current "available balance" that shows in the bank. I will stick with Quicken 2011, though Moneydance is my primary financial software now. Works on all platforms: Windows, Linux, and Mac.

Thanks. Now Google Play tells me that "This item cannot be installed in your device's country", so I guess it's no use chasing this anymore. Damn! Wish I could find a half decent replacement for my Quicken Desktop...

I found Financisto for my phone! Seems to work nicely. I guess I'm stick with having to export .qif files from my phone to my desktop...

"Here's a list of improvements and changes we've made to Quicken this year. If you're upgrading from an older version of Quicken, also take a look at the improvements we've made to Quicken over the years.

Mobile & Alerts NEW. Quicken on your mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet) makes keeping track of your money super easy. Whether youre at home or on-the-go, youll know where you're spending your money, how much you have left, and how it all compares to your budget. You can also choose to receive various alerts and account summaries regarding your balances, fees, and spending patterns. All of which are completely customizable, of course!

Budgets IMPROVED. Its easier than ever to set goals and stay in control of your finances with our improved budget tool. Check out the new Grid and Annual Views, and set up budget rollovers to handle month-to-month variations in your income or expenses. We think you'll love what we've done here.

Loans IMPROVED. Quicken now downloads loan information from financial institutions. This makes tracking your loan balances easy, and the new loan account interface offers a more complete picture of your loan, including the projected payoff date and the total interest paid.

Hidden and Closed Accounts IMPROVED. Quicken now provides more flexibility in the way you view and use your hidden accounts. For example, if youve closed a few of your real-world accounts, you can now mark those account as Closed in Quicken.

Register Search and Filter NEW. Weve added a fast new search feature that finds transactions in the currently open register and then displays them in the context of the register itselflike a register filter. Give it a try!

Register Action Bar NEW. The Register Action Bar is a row of buttons at the top of your register that you can customize to provide fast access to the features and reports you use most often in an account.

Renaming Rules IMPROVED. We've simplified the user interface and improved the matching accuracy of renaming rules.

Savings Goals IMPROVED. It's now much easier to access and use your savings goals."
