Deleting Default Categories

I have added most, (I use the default payroll and investment categories), of the categories I use. Even though I've been a Quicken user for many years, and upgrade annually, I've never gone in an deleted all those categories that are part of the program.



My question is, is there any reason I would not want to go in and delete all those default categories that I have never used? I want to make sure I don't break something.

You can not delete the categories that begin with the underscore; e.g., '_IntInc' - these are 'harwired' so-to-speak.

You can delete the others [nothing breaks] and in recent versions of QW you can add them back using the little button at the bottom of the category list.

Be careful here in case you delete one or more that you have used. Make a good backup(s) before launching this exercise. Have shot myself in the foot more than once tinkering with re-catecorizing or deleting categories that I thought were not used :
