Does Quicken2005(US) work in Europe(?)

Hi,

I'm living in The Netherlands and there is no local version of Quicken available. There exists a German Quicken, but thats in the German language.

Since I can get Quicken 2005 US when I'll be going to the US, I am wondering if this version is able to work with the Euro (?). Also, are (most) other functions working in other country's than the US?

Kind regards for your reaction!

You will be able to use Quicken in the "manual" mode for banking, credit cards, assets/liabilities, perhaps loands (if the method of interest calculations can be matched) and for investment transactions.

You will be unable to use online features to download data from your FI's, get stock quotes (you can create your own by creating a .csv file).

You will be unable to use the tax planning aspects, capital gains/losses will be calculated for the US, there is no provision VAT taxes such as exist in the EU.

While Quicken can be customized to have accounts in multiple currencies, it may be easier to staick with the default dollar and simply know that all dollar-denominated amounts are actually Euros.

Quicken runs on a computer using a more or less recent Windows operating system. If your machine has a Dutch version of Windows, the menus would look really weird to me (I was born and grew up in Holland). For your purposes, Quicken would not be much more than a good spreadsheet template would be. I would suggest to talk to your bank's IT people to find a program for your use, or to try either Moneydance or Acemoney. I believe they are more geared to internatinoal users than Quicken, which seems to leave non-US countries, rather than go invade them .

That said, I do keep track of the few Dutch banking transactions I have in my main Q2005 DL (US) Quicken. It really sucks though that it can't remember what the ?/$ exchange rate is on different days. Apparently in the US version there is only 1 exchange rate and adjusting it changes it for all transactions.
