Does Validate Write to a Data Log if No Errors Found?

I'm using Q2008 H&B. When I run Validate, the routine seems to run to completion but doesn't report any information (errors found or no errors found). When I look in the data_log.txt or OLD_LOGS.TXT files, they contain no data except the results of converting from Q2002 to Q2008 last year.

I'm almost certain that Q2002 (and earlier) Validate always wrote to the data log files even if no errors were found. Can someone confirm that Q2008 does NOT report to the data log files unless errors are found?

Hi Rick,

Earlier versions of Quicken (Q2004, for example) wrote to DATA_LOG.TXT in the same folder where the Quicken data file resided.

Newer versions of Quicken (Q2008, for example) write to DATA_LOG.TXT in

:\Documents and Settings\YourWindowsUserName\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\Log

And, yes, Quicken writes to the log file even if there are no errors found.

[The above applies to Windows XP; I believe Windows Vista would have a somewhat different path to the log file; though I suspect it would be conceptually similar.]

Hi, John.

I see that Rick posted using OE, which means he's running WinXP. But, for others who may be running Vista or Win7, I found that file in Win7 in this folder: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\Quicken\Log

Hi John & R. C.

Thanks for replying. You're correct: I'm running XP and found the DATA_LOG.TXT file in the path you specified. And the file reported no errors after Validate.

The thing that really confused me is that I DO have a DATA_LOG.TXT file in the directory where the Q data file is located. And Q2008 is the only Q I have ever installed on this machine. I guess the purpose of that file is to report the success or failure of conversion from an older data file.
