Error 1601 and why isn't it on the help site?

Once more I have thrown caution to the wind and given money to Quicken.

Once more it has given me trouble and once more they aren't there to help me.

I am trying to install Quicken 2007 Deluxe onto a Pentium 4 with 1 gig of Ram. The program has erased my previous installation (Quicken 2005) and then uncermoniously quits with "Quicken failed to install - Exit Code:

1601"

Online help yields nothing. Now I have nothing, not even what I had before.

The chat help does not do anything at all - it just sits there. Phone help tomorrow - with what someone in Hyderabad? and a half hour or more listening to muzak?

What is Error 1601?

I tell you, the two instances of phone help I had with people with strong Indian-subcontinent dialects, both were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Neither one was a Quicken call; one was to a router mfgr and the other was to AOL when I was trying to get out of a service agreement (one of those things where the "free trial" morphed into a monthly paid thing). I refer to them as "Indian-subcontinent dialects" because I don't know if they were Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi. I also don't know if they were in the USA or "over there." Just don't sell them short. You may be surprised how good they are.

If that came across as lecture-y, I didn't mean it that way. I was trying to reassure you that it might not be as bad as you think.

It isn't really them I sell short. It is quicken. They only repeat the script that Intuit wrote for them. I keep telling myself I won't upgrade again and then I do it anyway. And there is always a problem.

In the meantime, do you have any idea why it won't install? exit code 1601 It sounds basic.

Afraid not. Don't think I've come across that one.

The only install problem I've had with Q06 Basic is the registration process. it recognizes my name and then says I'm registered at an email address I no longer use. But then when I try to change the email address it puts me through some process designed for small businesses, which I ain't. I'm just a home user.

You're not having that problem, are you?

Well, I have figured out that I can't access the "chat" help because of my router's firewall. I need at least port 443 - beyond that? who knows? Could it be that it must have an open network connection to install? What if I don't want that computer on a network at all?
