Experiences running Q2008 H&B on Apple OS X/Fusion/Win XP

My previous post (Importing Windows for PC to Quicken for Mac) and its responses convinced me that Quicken for Mac was not the way to go. So, since I have a Mac with Intel chips, I decided to run Win XP. The method recommended to me was to run XP under the program VMWare Fusion, which I installed and successfully virtualized XP Pro.

Then I installed Quicken. So far, so good. BUT when I tried to load up the data file originally generated by Quicken 2008 H&B on a PC, it told me that the file was from a newer version of Quicken and would not load. So I went to my backup directory and tried to restore my latest backup. Also got the same error message. Now I'm thinking maybe I need a PC just to run Quicken (which I am dedicated to after the many years I have been keeping my finances in this way).

But I'd still like to try a few more times to get Windows Quicken working on my Mac.

Does anybody out there have a clue as to why I may be getting this error message? I don't even know who to contact: Mac, VMWare, Microsoft, Intuit. (As I wrote the last sentence, I'm actually surprised that I got this far with so many levels and sublevels of programs working to get my application going properly.)

You could get that error message if the file you are trying to open was created by Q2008 R2 or greater and you are trying to open it with Q2008 R1 (which is what you'd have if you just installed Q2008 and did not apply any updates.

Make sure you have applied all the updates to Q2008, then try opening the file again.

Sorry for the delayed response, but my switch from PC to Mac has kept me busy. I'm hoping this new newsreader will work OK.

Your answer was right on! I had completely forgotten about the Quicken update. When I u[dated it understood my files perfectly.
