How to prevent downloaded dupes?

If you want to get a handle on the guilty party; I suggest you plan to save two, or more, OFXlogs ... then compare the one that had the first download of the specific transaction; with the duplicate, later downloaded. You can see (and save) OFXlogs in Quicken > Help > Product and Customer Support > OFXlog.

If you find that the second (the duplicate) downloaded transaction has a unique (never before downloaded) Financial Institution Transaction ID (), you can lay the blame on your financial institution - they are the one's who assign the FITID.

If you find the second (the duplicate) downloaded transaction has the same FITID as the originally downloaded transaction, you can probably lay the blame on Quicken ... though (I believe) the problem may actually also be caused by data corruption, and certainly by the loss of the .QEL file (from versions prior to Q2010) - problems over which, Quicken may have no control.

For those inclined, Intuit has a piece of software that can tell you all the FITID's you currently have in your Quicken data. See:

Interesting John - when I go to the online center, there's a nice ICON at the top of the screen that extolls the virtues of the 'new' Quicken 2009. And of course, I'm running 2010D. When I click on that ICON, it navigates me to a 2010 Q website.

When I click on the link I provided, I see a screen that gives me another link ("Creating a QELLOG.TXT file ....") ... which is to the article 2738, which tells me what QELLOG is and gives me another link to download it.

I don't see any version/year specific displays on either of the two screens.

Yes, I go to TOOLS-->ONLINE center drop down. Right under the words "Renaming Rules" on that panel's menu bar (between the 'Financial Institution' drop down on the left and 'Update/Send' on the right) is a nice advertisement logo for Q2009 with the words "New Quicken 2009 - See what's new" that one can click on to bring up that web page that extols Q2010's virtues.

I don't see that in my Q2010 RPM R3 (I selected several fi's there, and still saw no logo) - I can't recall whether I have ever seen a logo there ... it's certainly possible that my memory is failing me though.

At any rate, it still is a mystery to me why I have that tile (that's a better, more technical word, than 'logo'), but this is it, I'm not going to lose sleep over this one!

I'm using Q2010 Premier R4 and I see the same think Andrew does for a couple of my online financial institutions. For most of my accounts, I see a logo for the financial institution. But for 2 of them, there is a What's New in Quicken 2009 logo.

Well, that's sort of how OT is used. Why include at ALL, in your subject line, the subject that a message does NOT pertain to? Just give your off thread message a subject line that DOES describe it.

I always believed that Off Topic referred to the larger issue of posting a message that was off of the topic of the newsgroup. In our case, for example, a message that is not about Quicken. If I post a message about a new bill in congress to change the tax law it would not pertain to Quicken, and I would give it an OT.

I generally dislike anyone lecturing anyone about so-called "netiquette." The first few people on the internet may have wished to set out policies, but now that every person on the planet is here "correct usage" is, as in language, whatever is generally occurring. My quibble with your use of OT is not that I consider it incorrect, but unhelpful. A subject line ought to identify the subject, not some other subject to which the message does not pertain.

Except that in this case, my post DID (sort of) pertain to the subject, since John had mentioned the ability to go to the ONLINE CENTER as part of his thoughts about the original duplicate download discussion. So although my original post about the Q2009 ICON wasn't about the duplicate download, it WAS about the topic that John brought to light pertaining to the ONLINE CENTER. That's why I labeled my first post 'OT'. Maybe I should have used 'SOT' as in 'Slightly Off-Topic' so as not to offend anyone else who shares your view?

And WHERE did either John or I lecture anyone about netiquette Doug? I was explaining why I added 'OT', not lecturing anyone. I certainly know that John knows what 'OT' means! And I didn't see anything in John's appends where HE was lecturing anyone either, so I don't understand that thought altogether!
