I'd l;ike to be able to create a report of Account x Category

In finishing up my income tax, I questioned some of the forms I received from certain of my banks or mutual funds. In order to check them with Quicken, it was desirable to have a report that showed totals for the year for each category of transaction for each account...something like:

Account Category $

Chase bank Interest income xx Expenses xx Vanguard ReinvestLongTerm xx ReinvestShortTerm xx ReinvestDiv xx etc.

Anyone know how to get aomething even close to this? I'm actually not certain that what I'm calling "Category" is really a Quicken category, but I'm certain you understand from my example what I'm trying to get.

You don't say what version of Quicken you are using.

In Q2004:

For Investment accounts, you can use the Investment Income report with sub-totals by Account (which really gives you one column for each account).

For non-investment accounts, you could use the Cash Flow report "Organized" for "Income/Expense" with one account per column.

Naturally, for both reports, you can select only a subset of accounts to appear in the report.

And if you find a report that has the "categorization" you like but which does not support "sub totals" by account, you can always create one copy of the report for each account you have an interest in.

I generaly start with QW's built-in Tax Summary Report - since it starts off limiting the field to tax related categories and accounts.

This gives you subtotals by category of all tax related info.

Can then customize to report for each individual account - this will give you the ability to cross check individual account [FI] reporting.

Further - You can also export the summary report to Excel and perform some editing to give you a 'database' of all tax related info and can run various total/subtotal schemes. Example - I like to subtotal dividends by security by account - a bit cumbersome in QW.

I start with QW's Tax Summary report - the implied assumption here is that you have tax related categories properly set up.

This report gives the subtotals by category for all tax related entries

- but it lumps all Payees [Accounts] together.

You can customize the report to show each Payee/Account individually which will let you do the cross-checking.

I also export the summary report to Excel and, after editing to show the info I want - can run various subtotaling schemes. An example - I like to be able to subtotal dividends by account by security.
