Making renaming rules more clever

I like the renaming rules, but I'm running into a problem. Right now I have a store prefix and that's great. so my transaction from STORE #2515 wherever VA and STORE #28056 otherplace VA both just show up as "STORE" in my register, and that's mostly fine. BUT:

1) is there some way to 'undo' the renaming. I thought there was in Q2009 but I can't find a way to do it in Q2012 [once in a while I *do* want to know which store or the like]

2) I've run into two stores with the same prefix. Sort of like Filene's from days past: both "Filene's" and "Filene's Basement" -- my problem is that my "Filene's" filter is catching the 'basement' transactions, too and can't figure out what to do about it. I can _see_ the transaction in my downloading transaction, but I can't find a way to enter it into my register *without* renaming [again, I thought there was an option for that in Q2009, but I can't find it in Q2012].

Thanks! /bernie\

Yes.

You can right-click a transaction before, or after, you Accept it, and select "Revert to xxxxxxxxxxx".

If you have already Accepted a transaction, you will lose the ability to "Revert" that specific transaction, if you make any modifications to it.

That's what gets me: I accepted the transaction and it appears that you _can't_ fix it once it is in the register. great. THANKS. /bernie\

Hmm.. I'm just in quicken now and it seems not to be working. And I'm not getting that option: the 'revert" is grayed out. What I'm seeing: Payee: Amazon.com Amzn.com/BILLWA in register [*NOT* accepted yet] Amazon.com

All I've got is 'show renaming rules' I get the usual :accept, accept all, hide, delete, manual match and show renaming rules. unmatch, make transaction new, make all transactions new and revert to original payee are all grayed out. ???

Revert only works on a payee name that has already been renamed. If the "Accept transactions ..." window is showing the un-renamed payee, there is nothing to revert there.

The norm has been that Quicken would display the renamed payee in the "Accept transactions" window (in quotes). [I don't use Q2012 on a regular basis, but I do test with it.] If the payee name is not appearing in quotes in the "Accept transactions ..." window, Quicken is not renaming it there.

If you Accept the transaction and the accepted transaction has the renamed payee, then "revert" *should* work on that transaction.

If not, you can always manually revert. Quicken now offers the ability to display many transaction fields that were never available before; one of them is "Downloaded Payee" name. You can display that in the register, then use copy/paste to put the original payee name back in place.

So I wonder what's doing the renaming -- it *looks* like it is the result of a rename [and there is, indeed, a renaming rule that would account for the difference between what I see downloaded and what shows up in the register.]

Where do I find that? I did find that if I click on the little downarrow at the right of the payee in my register, I get to see the renaming rules [and there are a *LOT* of them...:o)] "apply renaming rules to downloaded transactions" is checked, as is "automatically create new rules when manually renaming payees".

Where do I find that?

In the account register, either: click Account Actions > Register columns; or click the small gear wheel icon just above the vertical scroll bar.
