Merrill Lynch Bill Pay & Quicken

Jul 19, 2006 2 Replies

I am using 2004 Premier. I pay my bills online thru a Merrill Lynch bill payment service. When I download those transactions, they come as *.qif files.

Will Quicken 2006 and following version accept *.qif file format?

When I go to download the transactions, the bill paying interface asks what version of the software I am using. The latest version that they are showing is 1999 and after.

TIA

Steve

No, Q2006 will not input QIF file into Merrill Lynch account in Quicken program. But you would be able to input that QIF file into dummy cash account, copy the transactions and then paste them in the Merrill Lynch account. However, you need to be very careful with that as duplicate transactions can easily happen

I disagree with the first claim and have a clarification to the second.

Q2006 *will* import qif files to any account type; I posted a link to how this is done at least once in this group, and fairly recently at that.

To successfully import qif file transactions into a cash (or other non-investment account) then cut/paste them into another account; both Quicken accounts must be non-investment accounts, and the qif file transactions must be formatted using non-investment account format rules.
