Misleading Email Ad?

I got an email from Intuit offering Quicken Premier H&B 2006. It described the new version's ability to attach images --such as receipts -- to accounts.

I ordered it. It took a long time to get here, but arrived today.

HOWEVER --

The feature for attaching a scanned image (or others) is an offer to buy SnagIt for $24.95 instead of the usual $39.95!

The original solicitation seems misleading to me. I expected the program (Quicken) to be able to scan and attach receipts to transactions, etc. But when it arrives, I get a coupon to BUY that feature, which actually requires a separate program -- for another $25! -- from another company.

How does this sound to you folks?:

Upgrade to Quicken Premier Home & Business 2006 for only $69.99 and get:

. .

. Electronic Document Attachment-Store and organize all of your financial records for easy review and retrieval by attaching important electronic or scanned documents and images-including statements, cancelled checks, receipts, warranties, and more-to your account.

Suggest you spend a few minutes examining your new software - it does permit attaching images exactly as advertised!!

It does not have the scanning function built in - nor was this advertised.

Don't know anything about ads for other software.

The software accurately advertises that you can attach files. It is not promoted as scanning software. You need to perform the scan or conversion however you want, then you can attach the resulting image (usually a PD) to your Quicken file.

Quicken 2006 H&B does allow digital image attachments to transactions exactly as advertised. In fact, this feature was available in a prior version of Quicken (1999 or 2000 - not sure which), but it was necessary to use the feature in conjunction with ScanSoft's PaperPort software in order to take advantage of it. Probably for this reason, Intuit dropped the feature after only a year or two.

This feature has been resurrected in Quicken 2006 (I don't believe it's available in Quicken Basic), however it is *not necessary to purchase SnagIt* to use the feature. TechSmith has apparently worked out some sort of marketing tie-in with Quicken 2006, but that's all.

Use whatever scanning software you have to scan documents and/or images to a directory you specify. Move your cursor over the paper clip icon at the right of the transaction and a balloon pops up that says, "Attach flags, notes or images." Click on the paper clip icon and a drop down menu will appear asking what sort of image you want to attach (Check, receipt or other image). It's really not that involved or difficult to figure out. It's a terrific feature. In fact, it was the primary reason I switched back to Quicken from MS Money.

The good thing about this version's implementation of this feature is that you don't have to use any particular scanning software to use it. Again, you *do not* need to purchase SnagIt to use this feature.
