Mutual Fund Xfer between Quicken files

I want to transfer some mutual funds from one Quicken account to another, and preserve the purchase data for tax purposes. This works fine if you transfer from one security account to another within the same Quicken file.

However, I would like to move this data to another Quicken file. The only possibiltiy that I see is to use a QXF file. However, there is no filtering for QXF export -- ALL transactions are recorded. Is there any way to just transfer the data for my selected mutual funds?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

You can forget the QXF route. While it exports all accounts (and you can't change that), it will not import investment accounts.

I think your only choice is to export to a QIF file. Then use the instructions in the following link to import that QIF file.

Everything copied, but there is one problem. Some of the mutual fund transactions copied were "Added" rather than "Bought". The "Added" transactions include the date acquired. Unfortunately, the QIF file does NOT include this information, so it is useless for tax computations!

While I didn't realize that specific limitation before, I'm not surprised.

QIF files have always been very limited in their capabilities, and never intended for most of the uses to which they have been put.

QIF file investment transactions have no provision for a second date; the only date in the QIF file specs is the transaction date.

You might consider putting the Date Acquired in the Memo field of the Shares Added transactions before exporting. Might make it easier to modify them after you import.
