Printer Caution - Q2006 Update

I just did the update from Quicken Premier 2004 to 2006 and found that the update didn't retain my check printer setings. Everything from check orientation to fine adjustments were gone. Minor issue but annoying to have to waste time and a sheet of checks.

In order to calibrate your check printer settings I suggest you print first batch of checks on blank paper and hold them and a unused sheet of checks up to the light to see how they line up. This is how I fine tuned checks for QuickBooks and didn't waste any unprinted stock.

So what's the purpose of your post? To find a solution or just bitch?

I second that...

I am a systems engineer; people need to understand that functionality and capability between releases is a tradeoff.

Would you be willing to pay $5 more for each feature deemed "irritating?"

I'd rather have a software developer focus on important functionality than printer settings.

Whoa - wait a second! The original poster said "and found that the update didn't retain my check printer setings. Everything from check orientation to fine adjustments were gone. "

This is *not* a "important functionality than printer settings." issue. If the OP was correct, Q did not retain user-defined settings across an upgrade. That has NOTHING to do with new functionality (nor really printers), that's a screw-up in the upgrade logic that Q has and the OP's point (IMNSHO) is valid.

The purpose was merely to warn others that are uprading to recalibrate their printer settings using a blank sheet of paper rather than wasting a sheet of checks.

Was the purpose of your post to suggest a solution, just bitch or just make yourself sound like an ass? (I think it was the latter.)

You're making a mountain out of a molehill; time to take a class in business and one in logic.

I think that most readers would agree that you are a very immature person who cannot deal with problems outside your comfort zone.

The ability of a new version to not "break" something that worked in the old version is what is lacking in many major software applications today. Microsoft, Symantec and Intuit do not seem to understand (or care) what regression testing is.

Actually, John, I have a DSc in systems engineering. I never stated whether the "ability to properly print checks is an important function of a program designed to manage finances (and print checks)."

I think the topic was "carrying over settings from one version to another."

Last time I checked, you could recallibrate and print checks properly. What functionality has been missed?

That is SE101... I need to be your professor!
