Q2005

Q2005 Security Prices Should I be able to download JUST the current day, or one day, of security prices? Every time I try I get Historic Data as well. This Historic data shows up in "Price History" for the individual security. I have followed the printed out instructions from Q2005 R-3 HELP.

Quicken used to download just one day's data. However, there were too many problems with missing and incorrect data. So they improved the program to download five days of data with each download. Most people were very happy with this change.

What's the problem with downloading more than one day's data, as long as it's correct?

Hi, Rick.

For the past few generations of Quicken, the daily One Step Update automatically gets the quotes for today PLUS the last 5 business days. Is that what you're seeing? To get truly historical prices, I have to specifically request them.

I kind of like the 5-day thing. That helps in case I miss a day, or in case a price was corrected or a later trade was posted after I downloaded yesterday's quotes.

I like it too. Means I can come in and do a one-step update in the morning to get all the overnight processing from my FI's and yesterday's closing prices without having to worry about today's quotes being downloaded, they will be corrected tomorrow.

I have a long list of long term holdings - for several accounts. All I need is month end data, or an occasional "special occasion" data download. Ex: some old AT&T with it's splits/combines/ spin-offs. You're talking a lot of data if you fill your hard drive up with every Hi, Lo, Close, Vol entry. To me it is unnecessary baggage

Looks like I'll have to stick with downloading from another source to my desktop and then importing to Qkn. I was kind of hoping the "pay for" accounting software would outdo the "grab it where you can" type

I track my investments on a week by week basis. I'm only interested in the weekly changes. Having all that "extra" data is a problem for me....

I would like the 5 day thing also, however, when I dl quotes no matter how I do it, I get "historical prices. I generally dl quotes just once a month (last business day) & w/historical prices I get the last month of prices. How do you have your dl's set so this does not happen? dj

Hi, dj.

I don't recall setting anything. That's just how One Step Updates works, so far as I can tell. And it has been that way for several years.

Hi, dj.

Darn -- thought there might be a way to get around this "historical price" thing. dj
