Quicken 2005 backup error message

I am getting an error msg when I try to backup to floppy disk (needed to transport from old computer) The message says "couldn't open backup file" - followed by "file not backed up" on the next screen.

It backs up to C & D drives just fine, but not to floppies.

Any ideas? I have tried deleting the old backup files, reformatting the disks, verify and "super verify" the files. All seems OK.

Tried every thing on this list except restoring an old data file from a previous version and then converting it as I don't have one.

Have you tried copying other files to the diskette? Perhaps the drive isn't working properly. If it does work, then you can use 7-zip or some other zipping program to create the files. Do the backup to a folder on your hard drive, then use the zipping program to create split files from the backup. Copy the split files to the diskettes, move them to the new computer, and use the same utility to recreate the files.

Hope this helps.

All great suggestions, one other, go buy an inexpensive USB Flash Drive say 1GB or even 512 MB for about $15 and backup to that. Much faster then Floppy and it will handle very large Quicken files.

Good point, Marty. But I assumed (yea, I know) that since it didn't have a CD-R, it was too old to have USB also.

You both are correct - No CD-R, No USB ports

I thought about the USB drive - been using for a long time on my system.

I'll have to look and see if there is any way to add a USB card or a CD-R to the system.

If not, I may have to go to the ZIP system.

Thanks for the help!
