Quicken 2005 freeze after R5 update

Jan 04, 2006 2 Replies

I have Quicken Deluxe 2005 in Windows XP SP-2. Yesterday I downloaded the R5 update and new investment transactions. Since then I've had repeated freezes and possible data corruption. Here is what happens.

After I accept downloaded investment transactions and answered whatever additional information Quicken asked for, when I click on another investment account (same Quicken file) the hour glass comes on and never goes away. Essentially Quicken freezes and becomes unresponsive forcing me to "end" Quicken.

When I restart Quicken, the 2nd investment account opens fine. Again after accepting downloaded transactions, when I move to a 3rd investment account, Quicken freezes again!

I ran Validate and it said it corrected some errors. However when I moved to a 4th investment account after accepting downloaded transactions in the 3rd account, Quicken froze again.

Any advice?

Jeff

Try restoring a backup and see if the problem persist. Don't open the backup, open a copy of it so you have a good backup if you need to try multiple things.

Also try to uninstall Quicken and then manually updating it to R4 and see if the problem manifests itself.

Thanks Mike. Turned out to be a Windows XP problem. I shutdown Windows and restarted and the problem went away. So far so good.
