Quicken 2006 Basic

During the installation of Quicken 2006 Basic, can it automatically uninstall the currently installed Quicken 2004 Basic program if I choose to do so?

Try! You can always cancel at a certain installation point "before" the actual install.

It should do it automatically if you let it. Q06 will ask the question during the installation. You would be ill advised to so no! Jim M.

Q2006 will not install if it believes there is another version of Quicken installed.

Thanks for the advice. It appears that I should uninstall Q2004 first via the Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs procedure.

After printing an annual report with Q2004, I want to start a new file with Q2006 in order to re-create a more satisfactory group of Categories for myself.

Q2006 will interrupt its installation, uninstall the older version, then resume the installation, if you choose to do it that way. Or you can initiate the uninstall yourself.

Q2006 also has a new uninstall utility on the CD; it's called "qcleanui.exe" (in the Tools folder). It can uninstall any Quicken version/year and it's been suggested by Intuit that it will sometimes (often?) get you a cleaner uninstall than the Windows uninstall. Should you have any problems with uninstall/install, you might want to try qcleanui.

I will try the new uninstall utility on the CD (retail) instead of doing it myself (I misunderstood your previous reply "Q2006 will not install if it believes there is another version of Quicken installed" so that is why I thought I would need to uninstall Q2004 manually).

After uninstalling via the CD, I will proceed with installation of Q2006 from that CD.
