Why did Quicken 2009 replace my Quicken 2006?

When I bought and installed a full version of Quicken Deluxe 2009, it replaced my Quicken Deluxe 2006. I had no choice to install it side by side with 2006 to compare. My 2006 still had some shelf life left in it.

If I paid for a *full* version of Quicken, can the vendor (Intuit) force the removal of an older version (during installation) that still has some life? e.g. If I paid full price for a new car, can a vendor (e.g. Ford) force me to destroy my old car?

Is a pro-rated refund of unused shelf life appropriate in these circumstances?

No, but you can't put them both in the same parking spot. The installation of 2009 didn't destroy your 2006 CD. It just took the parking spot on your hard drive.

If you think it has some value, you can put it on EBay. The bidding should give you a good idea about the value. I've also sold old software at the used book store.

If you want both versions on one computer, look here

Of course, once the data is converted for the Quicken 2009, it can't be loaded on Quicken 2006, but the installation of 2008 made a backup of the old data files for you. So, you can use one set of data with 2006, and another with 2009.

Why would you spend the money to upgrade to 2009 if you still wanted to use

2006?

Good analogy. Thanks.

Do you know what you are talking about?

So what do you think is the full price of Quicken Deluxe 2009 vs. the upgrade price for existing customers?

I paid for a full version of a new product, not an upgrade price. I expect to keep my old version until I determine when to dispose of it.

In Quicken 2009, "When the "Quicken 2009 - Install Wizard" screen appears, press and hold Ctrl+Shift and then click the Next button. A message box warns you that the installer won't check for a previous version of Quicken, which means it'll leave your current version in place and install Quicken 2009"

- "Quicken 2009: The Missing Manual" by Bonnie Biafore.

Now who would have guessed that? I don't recall a dialog where the Installation asked me for choice of directory to install Quicken Deluxe 2009 into.

Recent Amazon.com prices on Quicken 2009 Home and Business (Full version): $79.79 (download) $69 (CD), free shipping

You wanna pay $74.99 for an *upgrade* to Quicken 2009 Home and Business?

For many users, having both versions would just confuse them. That would cause a lot more calls for support, and cost the company money. Intuit provided a method for installing both versions, but made it obscure so that only advanced users would be doing it. I would imagine that they would have told you how to do it, if you had called their support number instead of inquiring in this user new group.

Supporting software used by millions of people is not easy, and not cheap. There are many Quicken users don't even know that Usenet news groups exist. There are many more who don't understand files and directories. There are probably still some who didn't know enough to take the cup out of the cup holder before inserting the CD into it.

In any case, you now have the method for installing both, so you can compare, and decide which one you want to run.

Stop assuming your customers are stupid (even though by and large you are correct).

Why? We all know that Intuit already doesn't provide any support that's worth a crap. That's why we're here! Besides they charge for their crappy support so this would be a boon for them!

s/obscure/undocumented/

Boy you *do *have an imagination don't you! ROTFLMAO!!!

And is done horribly by Intuit and this has been that way for a decade at least! It *can* be done, easily and cheaply *IF* you start by writing good software!

Most computer users don't know what Usenet is. See my first point above...

See point #1 above...

Nor why, after asked for the 2nd diskette and inserting it, it's asking for the 3rd diskette but you can't quite fit the 3rd one in there because diskette #1 and #2 seem to be stuck! (Old joke I know but you get the point...)
