Quicken 2007 - still buggy?

My bookkeeper was really raving about Quicken, so I'm thinking of giving it a try. However, when looking at it on Amazon I noticed a lot of negative reviews, apparently related to some bugs it has (or had). Is this still the case, or has Intuit fixed these?

Also, which version would folks recommend?

Thanks for any feedback on these. -Pat

Pat:

Quicken 2007 comes with a 60-day money back guarantee, so you can always buy it, try it out, and return it if you don't like it.

As far as which version, I prefer Home & Business.

I find the Business Center a handy way to keep track of cash positions in investment accounts.

IOW, set up your investment account with "Show Cash in a checking account."

Move those checking accounts to your Business Center.

That way, when you display your Investing Center grouped by Asset Class, your cash total matches your Business Center total.

That may not be worth the extra money to you, but at $59.99 at Costco, I personally think it's a bargain.

I've been very pleased with Quicken 2007 Deluxe, and I'm a very long time user. I checked the Amazon feedback to see what you were referring to. I was surprised to see the few negative comments about this release. I did notice that the negative feedback was from people that had been using previous releases and their problems seem related to conversion of their data to the newest version. As a new user you, of course, wouldn't be exposed to their problems. I'm pleased to say that I haven't encountered any of their problems either and my Quicken data goes back about a decade or more.

I'd suggest you do give it a try. And this newsgroup is great place to get advice and to get questions answered. Bernie

As a long time qkn user I find 2007 not to be up to the standards I have come to expect. There are major printing problems for many, there are download problems for some, out of memory problems, many crashes, strange behavior using the misc category in investment income, screen flickering, etc, etc. Most of these problems affected some users - not all. R2 did NOT take care of most of these problems. I would wait at least until r3 is released to buy '07 or even better purchase '06 which was very stable & did not exhibit any of these problems.

I've used various editions of Quicken going back, I think, to Quicken 4 in late '92. I upgraded to Quicken 2007 Deluxe from Quicken 2002 Deluxe earlier this year. I am NOT technologically gifted.

I have noticed the screen flicker that others have raised, but that's usually just a matter of waiting a bit (30 seconds is about the max) for the matter to settle itself. I have had no other complaints with this edition. It migrated my 14+ years of data from 2002 to 2007 without a hitch.

Bob Wang, below, noted Quicken's 60 return policy. With that, I'd have no problem buying this software if I were you. It's been just fine.
