Download the Quicken trial version and install, if the software works, then you can order a full version online somewhere that ships to the UK.

This is online at Quicken about exports.

I do not see the UK listed.

Bad news for UK users.

It's hard to imagine that it (or almost any other application program) would not run on a UK computer.

Whether it's useful to you, using dollars for its currency, I don't know, but as far as I know it should run with no problem.

The US versions of Quicken now have multi currency capabilities of sorts. They do NOT automatically download and use "today's" exchange rates. IN the OP's case, I'd set the home currency to pounds.

Edward I didn't have a lot of luck getting the trial version of Quicken to run. It installed fine but when I tried to open my old UK Quicken 2004 file I got an error message saying that European Files were incompatible with this version of Quicken, which I guess was the source of the warning I was given? Realizing I could do a QIF export/import from old to new version I tried to start a new quicken file. I floundered again as the programme (trial) insisted on a registration before I could use it and would only function If I entered a US address and more importantly Zip code so I gave up.

Can you help as I would love to get this working!

You can look up zip codes here:

Live where ever you like: pick a city and state; like Bentonville, AR Chicago, IL or Lodi, CA and a street like Main Street.

Or skip registration altogether. Hold down CTRL+SHIFT while clicking One Step Update (in the Online menu).

John

Thanks

I suppose a workaround would be for me to move to the US!

Its astonishing that Quicken and now MS Money have abandoned the UK market. Perhaps they realize all the brits are broke. I dont know what the alternative is, I have been using Quicken for about 15 years, now i'm told the most recent uk version (2004) wont run on Windows 7 which I am about to migrate to,

Cheers

Had the same problem but I did as John suggested or at least something similar, that is entered my UK address and a 'dummy' ZIP code (10001 I think). I have been using the 2009 version for a year or so now without a problem.

Incidentally I 'updated' from the 1999 version without problems, whether or not the 2010 version would allow updating data, rather conversion, from yoiur earlier versions I couldn't say but I suspect it will but there is no going back, so back up before you try.

Stephen, I too had a similar problem a few months ago. I ended up buying the Australian version of Quicken 2009 and it was able to convert my Quicken UK data file without any problems.

Obviously the online functions are useless and I can't download statements and all that from my bank, but I'm in Africa so Quicken has never offered that option. And like a silly idiot, I keep paying for upgrades...

Stephen I'm using Quicken 2004XG on Windows 7 in the UK. It works just fine, but you need to add some dlls and some other commands to get it to run. I don't need to update investment and prices though. I could probably dig out my notes if you like? I picked up a copy (sealed pack) on eBay for £13.98.
