QW6 Data Corruption

How do I fix a data corruption problem which has occurred in my Quicken for Windows 6 I've been using without problems since 1996?

I am running QW6 on Windows XP SP3. My QDB file is 5.04Mb. I ran "Validate" and got a window which said "Assertion Failed: Expression result, File validate.cpp, line 1044". When I closed this window I got another window which said, "Application Error: Abnormal program termination". Smaller QDB files do not seem to have the data corruption problem.

The data corruption occured when I ran a Tax Schedule report for 2008 and I noticed some transactions from 2004. I have not "year ended" files for a very long time (if ever). When I went back to look at the

2004 transactions, I found that the transaction amount in the register was correct, but the split entry items and amounts were not correct. After I fixed the erroneous register entries, the Tax Schedule report looked ok, but the next time I ran the report there were a new set of error transactions from 2004. I also found that some _DivInc transactions were erroneous, i.e., I did not recognize the amounts, date, accounts, or catagory information.

I ran viruscan software and did not detect any virus. I have not uninstalled and reinstalled QW6 from the 3.5 floppy disks yet.
