Rearranging the order of transactions in register

This has driven me crazy for years! If I have several transactions on the same date, and I want to rearrange them in an order that makes sense to me, how can I do that? There must be some easy way of doing it. Can anybody help? Garret garret at garretswayne dot com

Garret:

To rearrange the order of transcations in register view, first set view to: View - Sort by Date / order entered

Assume there were 4 transactions on 3/31/2007, originally entered in this order:

D C B A

Cut B, paste B, cut C, paste C, cut D, paste D, and you end up with:

A B C D

Hi Bob,

Thank you for supplying an answer to this question. I really want my register in Quicken to match my bank statement. However, I do not see anywhere to set the view to "Sort by Date / order entered" while in the register. The only way I can figure to sort by date is to click the date tab on the register window. However, after I have clicked it, and then have a transaction highlighted, I can not copy, cut, or paste the entire transaction into a different position. I am only able to copy individual items in the transaction such as the date, payee, etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much,

Adrian

There is no way to guarantee that your Quicken transaction sequence will match your financial institution statement sequence ... though "Date / order entered" may come close.

I think you would need to have all your transactions "entered" as "New" transactions in downloads from your fi ... and the fi would have to send the downloaded transactions in the exact same sequence they will eventually appear in the fi's statement.

That sure never happens for me (but luckily, I don't want my Quicken transactions in the order they appear on my fi's statement anyway).

If you right-click on a transaction, you should get a menu that includes the choices to "Copy", "Cut", "Move", or "Paste" ... "transaction(s)".

You can also get those same choices, if you select one or more register transactions, then click the Quicken menu option "Edit > Transaction".
