I have been using quicken since `1994 and upgraded every year. But the last couple of so called upgrades really did not float my boat. I use quicken to run a small business with the quickpayroll utility.
Is there a good complelling reason to upgrade to 2006

Mini reports right from the register for either a payee or category, and ability to create transaction attachments are two "nice to haves". But "compelling"? Perhaps not.
Some of us like the incremental improvements.

You're right about the improvements. I like them too. My problem started the day I installed QP2006 and is that 9 out of 10 times if I hit the "Download Transactions" button from within any of the registers, the app closes and I'm at the desktop. Going to the various institution web sites shows sometimes the transactions to send were made and sometimes not. The One-step Update does work like you would expect. Quicken has been silent on the matter, and I guess it is just personal frustration on my part here.

Quite a few of us have experienced the mystery of the closing program.
As I type this, it hasn't happened in a few weeks.

As posted, quite a few of the contributors to this newsgroup have experienced the same thing.
And, to the best of my knowledge, there are no "latest updates" to Q2006... It's still at R1.

Yes, the "disappearing Quicken 2006" bug seems to affect some people and not others. Fortunately I have not seen this problem, but a number of people have complained about it. I, on the other hand, routinely experience the "update balance date" bug, where the update balance window automatically uses the date of the last transaction, rather than today's date. This is another example of a bug that only some see. And you're right, currently there are no updates for Quicken 2006 for Windows. There is an update, however, for the Mac version. Hopefully there will soon be one for QP2006, though if I'm remembering correctly, there seems to be somewhat fewer bugs in QP2006 R1 than there were with R1's of some previous versions.
Regards,
Margaret

Fortunately, the "disappearing" bug is just a minor inconvenience, as it only occurs, occasionally.
My gut feeling is that it's related to "timing out."
I don't think I've experienced the "update balance date" bug, but now that you mention it, I'll have to look!
