Must I upgrade from 2003 to 2006?

I just got a letter from Intuit, stating that my Quicken 2003 will no longer be supported, and that I MUST upgrade to 2006 if want to continue using ANY online services.

I don't use Intuit's services, but I do download transactions directly from my checking and credit card companies. I've grown to rely upon this feature for quick and accurate reconciliation.

If Intuit's statement is true, I would expect a notification from my bank and credit card companies as well, (but haven't).

I suspect that Intuit is exagerating or misleading me.

I have no idea why you believe your financial institution would notify you about this: they won't, they don't; and it's basically true.

The only "exageration" is that you do not have to upgrade as far as Q2006, you can upgrade to Q2004 (to get one more year of downloads), Q2005 (to get two more years of downloads), or Q2006 (to get three more years of downloads). [All based on current interpretations of Intuit policy]. The only reason for the "exageration" is that Intuit only sells the most current version of Quicken: so if you want to deal with Intuit, and keep your download capability; you must purchase the most current version of Quicken ... Q2006.

You would do yourself well to stay abreast of what goes on with your software; the above noted policies have been in effect for several years.

It is true that you have to do some kind of upgrade if you want to continue downloading.

I have just researched this very same issue and was really distressed to learn that Citibank is charging $10 per month, per account (unless the accounts are linked), to allow you to download directly into Quicken 2006.

Since qif files are not supported in Q2006, you really don't have any choice if you want to continue downloading.

However, you can purchase Q2004 which still supports importing qif files. This will "buy" you one more year of free downloads via importing qif files.

As I understand it, Q2005 doesn't really support importing qif files either.

When I faced this issue several years ago I found good deals for older Quicken versions on Ebay. The seller had thousands of sales with 99%+ positive feedback. The product was sealed and registered OK. It looks like I'm good for another year.
