Balance Update

Some users in the above discussion are not seeing the Reminder option to use the "Current credit card balance" to have Quicken compute the amount for a credit card payment.

The likely reason for not seeing the "Current credit card balance" option is that the user has setup the Reminder to be recorded directly in the credit card account: when that is the case, Quicken will not offer the "Current credit card balance" option.

The Reminder should be set to record the credit card payment transaction in the Quicken account from which the payment will be made (with the category of that Reminder being the name of the Quicken credit card account in square brackets).

So what happens to the reminder when you reconcile your cc statement and it creates a payment as a final step? Sounds like you will have a redundant reminder.

I have my credit card payments automatically debited from my checking account by the credit card companies, so I never use that feature to have Quicken create a payment transaction at the conclusion of a cc reconcile.

[I don't think that feature creates a "reminder", I think it creates an actual transaction (possibly a "write check") transaction. ]

My guess would be that if one is using the "Current credit card balance" to have Quicken compute the amount of the cc Reminder, one would have (at least) two choices: a.) The user can simply stop having Quicken create a payment at the end of the cc reconcile and use the Reminder to create the payment b.) If the user want to use the feature that creates a payment at the end of the cc reconcile, they can just "Skip" (or "Ignore") the Reminder. This might be what a user does who intends the Reminder to help keep their Projected Balances accurate during the month.

Thanks.

I just tried it and, lo and behold, found an actual use for that ridiculous Quicken nag "is this the payment for . . ."
