Community Discussion: Auto Enter Bills not working

There seems to be some misunderstanding in this discussion.

1.) Auto-enter reminders are processed (auto-entered) when Quicken first starts. If Quicken has not been Exited and Re-Started since a new Auto-enter reminder was created, my tests indicate that auto-enter reminder will not be auto-entered. In that case, the user can exit/re-start Quicken or manually enter the reminder.

2.) When the user wants to manually enter an Auto-enter reminder, the reminder must be right-clicked to get the option to "Enter". The Reminder can be right-clicked/entered from Tools > Manage Bill and Income Reminders, or from the "Bill & Income Reminders" tab below the destination account.

3.) If there is no "Bill & Income Reminders" tab below the destination account, it is likely the the account is activated for downloading and the user has told Quicken to automatically add downloaded transactions to the account: when auto-enter downloaded transactions is in effect for an account, there are no tabs below the account. The auto-enter downloaded transactions option is controlled globally in Quicken Preferences for Downloaded Transactions, or locally on the Online Services tab in the Edit Account Details dialog of the account in question.

I forgot: there is one more way to manually Enter an Auto-enter reminder: select the reminder in Tools > Manage Bill and Income Reminders, then click "Enter" in the Bill and Income Reminders menu row.

Some additional observations.

"The option to click Enter for a reminder is in the list of upcoming Reminders on the Bills & Income tab and also on the Reminders tab at the bottom of the account's register, when you click on the Reminder."

On 10-13-22 Member jnprop replied:

"@Jim_Harman there is no "enter" option on manual bills that are set to auto enter. Never has been, never will be."

Once again a user (jnprop) rushes to make a false statement.

While SuperUser Jim_Harmon's statement was not totally accurate about HOW to manually enter an Auto-Enter reminder, it was correct in the sense that it IS possible to manually enter an Auto-Enter reminder.

As I noted earlier in this discussion, an Auto-Enter reminder can be manually entered by selecting the reminder on the Bill and Income Reminders list (Tools > Manage Bills & Income Reminders), then clicking "Enter" in the Bill and Income Reminders menu row.

On 10-05-22, member tntgalx10 made the following false claim:

" ... if you don't open Quicken on THE DAY (24 hr clock) that is actually "1 day ahead"... Quicken is too dumb/unevolved to realize that if the current date is PAST the "1 day ahead" date... it will not automatically enter it in your transaction."

I have no idea what is going on for member/user tntgalz10, but I have several auto-enter reminders and I have never had the problem he claims. I just now tested and user tntgalx10's problem does not occur in my test file (R43.26) - consistent with my 22 year experience with Quicken. [My test auto-enter reminder was scheduled to be entered 3 days before October 10, 2022. When I started Quicken today (October 30, 2022), the auto-enter reminder was automatically entered in the designated account.]

If an Auto-Enter reminder that is not affected by any Quicken data corruption becomes eligible to be auto-entered during a period when Quicken is not running; just starting Quicken will cause that reminder to be auto entered. All eligible auto-enter reminders are auto-entered when Quicken starts.

Users do themselves no favor when they focus on making negative claims (frequently with no supporting evidence). No matter how well thought out the problem description, not everyone will get a response they find helpful; but the odds of getting a helpful response are significantly diminished when users treat a useful resource like the Quicken Community as essentially nothing more than the "Quicken Complaint Department".

Attempting to open a dialog with the intention of acquiring knowledge has a much better chance of producing useful results.
