Some questions

I'd like to get some software to keep track of my checking accounts, savings accounts, credit card bills, etc. I have been looking on the internet for information and Quicken seems to fit the bill. I don't want to use it online, only keep track of my accounts using one software package. Also, I definitely want to be able to password protect my files. Question is, is the basic version all I need?

Basic will do very well for you. Was a Basic user for several years thru several versions thru QW05. With a few minor exceptions, it has the same core home finance features as the higher priced versions. You get a lot of 'bells & whistles' with Deluxe & up; numerous 'planners', etc., none of which I find particularly useful for my purposes. I used Basic for the needs you describe plus managed rental properties, retirement, IRA and regular brokerage accounts. Have been able to maintain very good records for tax purposes.

Would think seriously about expanding to the 'online world'. It is a tremendous convienience. You can do this with Basic at any time you get the urge to do so.

Have to agree with the statement about online features being a tremendous convienience. I only started using Quicken about 2 years ago, but using Quicken and online banking for managing finances and tracking investments has been a real asset.

I like Quicken alot. Probably the most important software application I own. Financially, I'm better off now than I was before I started using Quicken. It's been a great help.
