Strange match problem

I had downloaded a charge into my Credit Card account. I then did a mobile deposit of the same amount into my checking account. When I downloaded my checking account Quicken "matched" the deposit with the charge, in the sense that the categories in each entry were the other account. But these were two transactions!

If I changed the category in either the other disappeared!

I tried downloading the deposit and unmatching it but that didn't help.

I finally entered the deposit in the register, downloaded and manually matched to that entry and finally had a correct register.

Any ideas what's going on here?

Could I have disconnected the two entries without losing one?

WTF would ANYONE do ANYTHING with their checking account relating to a charge to a credit card?  The only action that makes any sense is the monthly payment from the checking account TO the credit card account. Again, WTF.

Did you not read my post. Or are you just trying to be difficult?

These were two separate transactions. The only relation was the matching amounts. Quicken tied them together, NOT ME.

Yes.

I believe you have "allowed" Quicken to "scan for possible transfers" then "Automatically create transfers when detected".

That capability is a Quicken "Preference" (Edit > Preferences > Transfer detection) which Quicken sets on by default. You can turn it off completely, or alter the Preference to be more user friendly

Transfer detection is a potentially very useful tool, but NOT when Quicken is allowed to automatically create those transfers. The better choice is to have Quicken "Confirm possible transfers before entering in register". I have very good results with that setting; Quicken gets around 95% to 98% of the detections correct for me.

Yes.

To do that you would first, non-intuitively, use Copy/Paste to duplicate the transfer ... creating two of the exact same transfer transaction. Then modify one of the duplicate transfers in one of the accounts (which will delete one of the transfers in the other account), then open the second account and modify (or delete) the transfer in that account.

Just to avoid any possible confusion: you would use "Copy transaction/Paste transaction" (found in the transaction right-click menu).

Thank you. The feature is so useful and this is my first hiccup that I will for now leave it on and fix things as you suggest if necessary.
