question regarding manual match of downloaded transactions

Quicken 2003 Dlx on XP Pro

Occassionally it happens that a downloaded transaction listed as "new" isn't really new, so I edit the transaction and select "match manually". Generally, this is not a problem, but even more occasionally, the list of transactions presented for manual matching doesn't include the one I want to match against. Yet, if I go look at the register directly, the transaction I'm looking for is there!

Suggestions?

I'm not sure anyone but Intuit knows the exact rules for matching for various Quicken versions; there are several possibilites, all but one possibility have to do with the visible data in the transaction such as transaction date, check number, etc. I can not tell you how Quicken utilizes those fields for matching purposes.

But there is one transaction characteristic that should always prevent a match: if the transaction has already been matched (or was downloaded as "New"). You can tell if that is true by right-clicking the transaction, holding down CTRL while left-clicking "Copy Transaction" and noting the "Downloaded Transaction" checkbox and the "Posted Date" field. If those fields are filled in, the transaction was downloaded New or already Matched; you should think twice about matching to it. If you are certain you want to match to it, uncheck the downloaded transaction box and blank the posted date.
