Manually Matching - open transactions left over?

Hey gang,

I download my financial data, for my checking account, directly from my bank's website, into Quicken Deluxe 08. When I have to manually match a transaction, I choose that, and it opens a little window, for me to find the transaction I am manually matching, and I select it. For the most part, most transactions match automatically, but occasionally I will need to do a manual match.

Ok, so in that manual match window, there are a couple of older transactions, that go back to 07, that it still shows an an open transaction I guess, that really should not be there, as my data is current and reconciled daily when I do my download.

Is there any way, that I can get rid of these two transactions, so they no longer show up as options to choose from, in the manually match window?

Thanks for any feedback here,

Yes there is. You need to tell Quicken that those transactions were already downloaded.

Right-click one of those transactions, then hold down CTRL and left-click "Copy transaction". In the resultiing dialog, check the "Downloaded" box and put a date in the "Posting date" field. Click OK.

Do the same to any transaction that should not be a candidate to match any downloaded transaction.

I have the same problem. The only time I see them is when an unmatched transaction downloads in that account. Is there any way to open the downloaded transaction block to see the unmatched without an active transaction received?

Sorry, I'm not following you.

The only place you can see whether a transaction has been downloaded is by opening the "View Posting Date" dialog for an existing register transaction as I described above.

This only works on transactions already in the register, but that is the only place it makes any sense. Any transaction in the "Accept transactions into register" window, is, by definition, "downloaded". No transaction in the "Accept ..." window should ever be a match to a register transaction that has already been downloaded.

[I have suggested to Intuit, on more than one occasion, that it would be useful to make the Downloaded status and, especially, the Posting Date visible in at least one Quicken report. So far, no luck.]

Thanks John. I presume, I will need to wait till I download again, to get that manual match window to where I can do this, I will give it a try next week when I download my transactions again and let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the help,

You don't have to wait for another download to modify your existing register transactions. You don't use the Manual Match window to make the changes; you make the changes directly to the transactions in your Quicken register. Sorry if that wasn't clear in my first reply.

You probably will have to wait for another download to see that your changes solved the problem.

I think I understand your question better now. See also my second reply to the original poster.

Thanks John,

I will probably have to wait till I download again, to see exactly those two transactions? I am not sure quite how to find them from just within the register.

John, I may not be saying it correctly, I have Q2009. So please bear with me.

How or where do you find the "View Posting Date" dialog. Is there a special view screen, filter, or report that shows all of them? I guess I've never seen a field with that title. That's what I was poorly trying to ask. How to find them and then go to the individual transaction to fix.

I described how to do that in my first post (though I forgot to mention that you do it on existing register transactions).

You right-click on a transaction in your Quicken regsiter; then you hold down CTRL and left-click on "Copy transactions". That will present the "View Posting Date" dialog.

There is no way - other than what I described above - to see whether an existing Quicken register transaction has been downloaded.

But, when you try to do a Manual Match, and you see a transaction offered in the Manual Match dialog that you are certain was already downloaded, then that (register) transaction is the one whose Download status and Posting Date you must modify.

In summary: "Download" status and "Posting Date" are characteristics of transactions in your Quicken registers. The only way to see those fields (or modify them) is via the "View Posting Date" dialog ... as described above.

And if the Manual Match dialog is displaying a candidate transaction to match to, that should not be a match candidate, it is almost always because Quicken does not believe the candidate register transaction was ever downloaded.

Mred, It worked for me fine. When you went to the actual transaction in the register and opened the posting dialog box with the CTRL Copy and added the missing date did you check the box next to it as downloaded?

Steve.

I was trying to do that in the accept transactions box, not the register. I guess I misread John's instructions. I do see now how that works in the register now. Thanks

Hey John,

Just wanted to report back, I got an opportunity to identify and find these two transactions, that were continually showing up in my manual match window, and did as you suggested - worked beautifully!

Many thanks for that, I would have never figured that one out!
