TurboTax works in pre-beta version of Windows 7

Hi, All.

The next version of Windows after Vista will be named "Windows 7". It was previewed at the Professional Developers Conference last month and about 800 MVPs received a copy of the early "pre-beta" version of the operating system. I've been previewing it for the past month and am very happy with what I've seen so far.

For me, naturally, compatibility with Quicken and TurboTax are very important and I'm happy to report that both programs install and run smoothly, just as they did in Vista and WinXP and before. (TurboTax for

2008 first refused to install in Win7, but setting the Compatibility mode to Vista RTM in Properties for its Setup.exe fixed that. TurboTax for 2007 installed in Win7 without needing a Compatibility setting.)

Win7 probably won't be generally available for another year, but it should easily run both Quicken and TurboTax.

: Turbotax 2008 will not install in Windows 7, even in Compatibility Mode. An error message appears that says the only OS can be 2000 XP and Vista.

Hi, spdickey.

I'm not sure why you are posting this clip from that source here.

As I've reported here more than once, including what you posted, I easily installed TurboTax for 2008 in the pre-beta version of Windows 7 once I set it to be compatible with Vista. I've now installed it (again in Vista compatibility) in the latest beta (build 7000) of Win7 and it runs fine.
