Currently have Q2000. I use it to either manually enter data re: checking/savings accounts or downloading information via .qif files. I realize that 2006 doesn't support .qif. Can I install 2006 in another location, taking advantage of automatic downloads from financial institutions and still use 2000 to manually keep my checking account?

Q2006 will not install if another version of Quicken is present. Once Q2006 is installed, you can install a different version. If you do, you will probably lose all the planner functions in Q2006 and a few other features may be affected as well. But you should still be able to download to Q2006.

Nope...... Once you use a version newer than Q2K, the database is updated....
