Using Quicken U.S. Version in Canada

I am currently using Quicken XG 2004 Canadian version. I am about to buy a new computer which has Quicken XG 2006 U.S. version pre-installed.

Would I be able to use the Quicken XG 2006 U.S. version and just load my existing data from the Canadian version into it? Is there a way to use the newer U.S. version or should I just uninstall it and install my Quicken XG 2004 Canadian version.

Thanks for any comments/suggestions.

Before you worry about whether 2006 US will read your data, you should decide whether you want to use it at all. For Canadians, the drawbacks of the US version are:

-- no online banking

-- no downloads of Canadian stock prices

-- downloads of Canadian mutual funds use a different symbol

-- no currency history

-- multi currency support is much less robust

-- no conversion of US stocks to C$ (because the version assumes it is working in US$)

If these drawbacks aren't a problem, then the simple answer is give it a try. As long as you keep a backup, you can always go back to it if it doesn't work.

My bet is you'll be uninstalling the US version and installing your Canadian one.
