I gather Quicken has abandoned the XG version for Canada and is using the same name as in the US.
Does anyone know if the US and Canadian versions are the same? (Once upon a time they were the same with a single click during the installation process to select the version.)
It may have been that simple to install either country version, but I don't recall the two country versions ever being the same (unless it was before my time; say around Q2000, US).
Sorry, didn't notice you were only commenting on the name.
As far as I know, XG was always the Canadian equivalent of H&B. So, yes, though the two programs (Canadian and US) have important differences under the hood, it does appear they will now share the same name.
Back when I started using Quicken, likely about 1992/3, there was only one software package for Canada and the US.... at installation time you had to select a radio button for Canada or US. Once installed, versions could not be changed.
So, we now have a name change to the product to make it the same as the US.
If anyone has installed, pls let me know if Quicken has returned to the old model or still selling unique products.
I bought Cash Manager 2008, and lo and behold the directions are that I need to prepare my old file to do the upgrade including
DELETING all tax, invoice and investement account types (and LOSING ALL the data within them)
I have asked tech support for a confirmation (which will likely only confirm the above)
If that is the case, I am stuck with my curent software and will likely never be upgrading, as the data lost could not be reconstructed.
(? Maybe they are abandoning their Canadian market, but at least they could put that info on the box, so I don't have to go through the hassle of returning the software)
My mistake - I bought Quicken Home & Business, but the insert asking to delete software belonged to Cash Manager (? not sure why it was included in the box)
In any case Q Home and Business loaded the Quicken XG 2006 files OK with no errors
Since support for my Quicken 2002 Canadian version is about to end, I am about to make a decision as to whether I should buy Q2008 Cash Manager or Q2008 Home and Business. Does Q2008 support various investment accounts, e.g. broker accounts...the selling and buying of shares, etc.? CM sells for $40 CDN and H and B, for $100, here in Edmonton, both in the stores and online at INtuit. Does anyone have any discount codes valid in Canada?
Thanks for any help....I started with Quicken 4, I believe.
