What's the best way to get my quicken Windows data to Mac?

Latest versions of both Quicken Windows and Quicken Mac.

File / Export / QXF on Windows. One of my cecking accounts is $600. When I import it into Mac, it has an ending balance of $230,000.

There's nothing 'obvioyus' that I can see that's causing it - at least nothing that woun't take me literally HOURS or days to find. The balance is slowly going up.

I'll be honest - I live paycheck to paychek. So I get a deposit, balance goes slowly down to $300 or so, then back up then back down.... this is pretty much going UP - a TON of transactions are missing over an extended period of time.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Happening on all my accounts too.

Thanks.

Also tried opening my .QDF on the Mac, same thing.

You might check the very first transaction (Opening Balance). I was having a problem for a while where that should have been zero, but was changed to some random number. The other thought is to run a data validate before you transfer the file. Make a backup first...

I've had that opening balance issue as well as some of us have discussed in this NG earlier.

Two other options, neither one might be "satisfying".

  1. Just accept a correcting transaction during your next reconciliation after you've verified you're ok with the transactions in your register. Don't worry about it moving forward. (This was you keep your payment history past and present in the same file). (This is actually akin to Evan's idea of modifying the opening balance.)
  2. Cut and run. Create new Quicken files on the new computer from scratch and move on from there.

There is an opening balance - it's correct. ('ve had the account prior to when there was data in quicken). So opening balance is an amount, and is also in the Quicken when I transefer over to the Mac.

Just a thought/idea, not specifically for this issue that I believe I read in this NG: Enter each accounts opening balance as a *comment* in each of the account registers so you can readily see if it has been changed due to issues like this. (Might need to redo this if one does any sort of year end copy or pruning). I thought that was a kewl idea.

The opening balance migrated over and is correct... :(

Is there a pattern to the missing transactions? All in one direction? All above or below a certain amount? All have certain categories? Or no category? Or one or more categories that are missing in the new set up? All missing transactions are for a date where ONE transaction that date made it?

Did you check all the boxes when setting up the export?
