Which files should I restore?

I've used an off-site backup instead of Quicken backup. I think I may need to restore my data files. I see I have .idx, .qdf, .qel, and qph files.

Will files from before the installation of 2009 Deluxe work with this version? Before the installation I was running Basic... don't remember which year.

I don't understand the question.

To answer your last question, first: yes.

As to your first question: what are you trying to accomplish?

Huh?

Meaning: IF you're going to restore, you "should restore all of the file types" you "find for a given date".

I saw those posts, I wasn't sure just what you were describing; I've never heard of anything like it. And I'm still not sure what you want to do.

Are you trying to return to using your previous version of Quicken?

If not, what?

The upgrade already "converted" your files from "before the upgrade": are you asking if you can try converting them again? The answer is, yes; but I'm not sure what it will accomplish.

So this did not occur when you first converted from your older version?

Before you try to reconvert, you might consider trying a Validate.

Make a Quicken Copy of your data; Validate that Copy. If the Validated Copy does not exhibit the problem behavior, make that Validated Copy your regular data.

Yes, if you ask Quicken to open a file from an older version, Quicken will try to convert that file to the current version.

[And when Quicken does a conversion, it makes its own backup of the old version file. You will find that backup in a folder named QnnFiles, where "nn" is the last two digits of the year version of the file being converted. The QnnFiles folder will be in the same folder where the file being converted lives.]

On the off chance it may be of some value, I'd like to get a clearer picture of what you are seeing.

Are you saying that you have verified that 100% of the transactions for one account are in the register of different account? And that register contains only the transactions from the one wrong account.

So all of account A's transactions - and only A's transactions - are in the register of the account named B? And all of B's transactions - and only B's transactions - are in the register of the account named A?

If so, couldn't you solve this problem by changing the account names of A and B to reflect the transactions they hold?

This is a perfect example of what I got out of the business of trying to support idiots who cannot even describe the problem sufficiently and incoherently. It just isn't worth my effort anymore.

You want to validate the file you reported having problems with. You should already know the name of that file ... but it's name is displayed in the Quicken title bar, and it should be the first file name in the list of most recently used files at the bottom of the Quicken Files menu.

The file with the date suffixed to the name was most likely created by a Quicken backup with the option to suffix the date chosen. The file(s) in the BACKUP folder are automatic backups created by Quicken. The Q06Files folder is the one I mentioned in an earlier reply, which Quicken created to hold the backup it made of your earlier version (Q2006) data just before it converted that file.

The answer to this is the very first answer I provided in this discussion.

I don't know how this compares with what you saw before. If you are saying that the Validate didn't change anything, then I suspect you'll have to try restoring from backups.
