Annual Travel Insurance

Any suggestions for good Annual Travel Insurance?

I have had quotes from Columbus and AXA,.

However I am concerned that both exclude Personal Liablity cover whilst using any motorised vehicle or watercraft. I guess this is probably standard practice for motorised vehicles, but I am sure I used to have Personal Liability cover for Windsurfing which I do quite a lot.

Thanks.

A client uses Worldwide Insure, IIRC.

But he has not made a Claim, which often can be the distinguishing factor.

Doug,

Thanks. The small print for personal liability exclusions is very similar to Columbus and AXA.

Adrian,

Sorry - I did not look at the exclusion clauses.

Richard,

Thanks.

Their wording re Personal Liability Exclusions is:

This section does not cover liability caused directly or indirectly by your owning or using any aircraft, motorised vehicle, boat (other than sailing dinghies, canoes, sail boards and surfboards) or any form of motorised leisure equipment.

So it seems I would be covered for Windsurfing. I will give them a ring.

The way I read the above is that the adjective "motorised" is indended to apply to both nouns, i.e. "vehicles" and "watercraft". Therefore a windsurfer, not being a motorised watercraft, would not be excluded.

They're basically excluding those activities for which you would normally be expected to have separate insurance.

Once you get over 60 or 65, the cover which comes with the AMEX Platinum card justifies the annual fee.

I've just saved £440 on a cruise booking because of it.

I got rather annoyed when I walked into an Amex office to ask about annual travel insurance and they gave me all the run down on the benefits but were unable/unwilling to provide me with a copy of the small print for me to take away and read at my leisure.

Ronald,

AXA's Exclusion wording is:

Pursuit of any trade, business or profession, or the ownership of any vehicles, aircraft or mechanically operated watercraft.

To that would read that windsurfing is covered, as it is not mechanically operated, but when I rang them they said it was excluded. Of course the person I spoke to may have been wrong, though he did check with someone else.

I took out a policy about two years ago with Go Travel Insurance, underwritten by Van Ameyde and Wallis Ltd.

I had to make a claim and was not very impressed with the claims handling. It took about a year from I made the claim until the claim was fully settled.

Do you read that as meaning business travel is excluded? I kinda do.

Well, did they give a reason for giving an answer which at first sight clearly contradicts the policy wording? If you've made other arrangements anyway there's probably little point, but you really should have done this in writing, not merely over the phone, as you have no idea who's involved. If the trainee checked with his colleague who was also a trainee, your answer is highly unlikely to be authoritative.

I've got them all, and they are a bit complex. But then, I expect that everyone else's are.

NEVER rely on a verbal interpretation of any contract, but especially not an insurance one.

Yep. It's not *travel* insurance, but *holiday* insurance AFAICS

What other sort of interpretation could there be?

Oh, I see, I'd taken 'verbal' to mean something like "communicated in the form of words;" but what had been intended was 'oral'. I must admit one of the later definitions in the same dictionary was "expressed in spoken words;".
