Applying for a loan; offered credit card too

Hi, I applied for a loan recently from a High St bank who I don't have an account with..., no probs!

Went to new bank to sign forms and had to set up account facility. While I was going thru the app the loans clerk also informed me that I had been approved for the banks credit card (the way she did this made me imagine that a pop up had appeared on her screen - as it was sudden and out of sync with the way the chat was going). Anyway I was a bit staggered by this as the card was being offered with a limit that was the same as the loan value. When I declined the offer, she said the problem now was that she would have to start the application all over again.

Isn't this a bit strange?

Good luck!

Probably hoping youl take both the card and the loan and make a lot of money every time you have a hiccup on iether or both. Interest in a card will be much higher than the loan so you did the right thing to turn it down. I bet the "start again application" is designed to encourage you to reconsider the card. Perhaps the interest on the loan is higher if you turn down the credit card so a restart needed. They wouldnt even try and explain that of course.

Sounds like a typical cross sell tactic to me. If you are brave perhaps tell them to forget the whole then as you only applied for the loan no the CC.
