I'm currently with Abbey National who do not provide a business credit card and I'm loathe to leave them as I get a good service.

Can someone recommend a business credit card that do not require you to have business banking with them?

MBNA Business. They do make an annual charge of 50 quid, though. I use it in a minor fashion and haven't had any excitement out of it, either positive or negative.

Freephone 08000 922 955 for their customer services, or go to:

That depends on the type of company. There is no annual charge for sole traders, self-employed and partnerships. For LTD companies it's £65 if I remember correctly.

What's the difference between a 'sole trader' and someone who is 'self-employed'?

Dunno. I was wondering that too. I was just quoting their website.

AIUI if you're not operating a limited company you can have a personal credit card which you reserve for use for business purposes, and naturally there won't be an annual charge. The fee charged for a limited company is to reflect the increased risk implied by the limited liability, and it's why the range of 'business credit cards' is much more, er, limited.

But - the fee is *fixed*, whereas the "inreased risk" varies with the level of payments made using the card. The one can hardly be said to "reflect" the other, as there is no attempt (even roughly) to get one to follow the size of the other!
