Car insurance for a mature driver with the new UK driving licence

Hi, I had international driving licence for 15 years, now exchanged the for UK driving licence, I drove in UK for a few years , but now when I'm trying to get a quote for a car insurance they consider me as a new driver and the quotes are very high. Does anyone know of a car insurer who will take this into account? Thanks

I think you'll find the problem is that you have no insurance record in this country and that's what insurers will go on.

Who were you insured with for those few years?

My insurance company recognised a foreign certificate of no-claims entitlement when I returned to the UK after working overseas for some time. Perhaps having one of those might help.

I was with elephant.co.uk and paid a lot because I had an international licence, now I have the British one and still have to pay a lot because according to them I'm a new driver

Don't worry, in a few years time you'll pay a lot because you're an old driver!

It was a few years ago now, but it was arranged through the AA.
