Chip and Pin not trusted?

My bf has had fraud prevention on the phone about two transactions he made on Saturday. I assume the time delay between transactions created some interest.

However they were both made using a chip and pin card so why did they not believe it? Do they think shops can clone cards?

""We hear that the High Street banks are getting tougher on people who are victims of card fraud or ID theft. They are not always covering the losses in full.""

My arguments are;

that if the industry can't keep your PIN secret then how can they claim that someone has been negligent with their PIN?

and

It's safer to continue to sign.

PINs are the key to Cash by means of ATMs. PIN harvesting and cloning or stealing cards is now an industry and as reported in the BBC consumers are now being physically threatened for their PINs. In one case it's now proven that it's easier for crooked staff to con OAPs.

Don't you think that the card industry should come clean and tell consumers that if they don't feel safe using a PIN or PINs, they don't want to allow crooks access to ATMs with cloned credit cards and PINs and they don't want to be held liable for PIN misuse then they can OPT for Chip & SIGNATURE.

Choose at PIN that is the same as your Debit Cards!

Don't Use The Same PIN for Every Card

Don't Use This PIN for Any Other Purpose

ATM fraud jumped a massive 37% according to APACS at the last count.

Shouldn't consumers be made aware that if they consider it safer to PIN than to Sign the card issuers should coming clean and informing consumers that Chip & Signature Credit Cards are available, if they so wish.

Hope it was a case of cloning and PIN pinching. If not:

Complaints to the financial ombudsman have risen as customers find their claims for compensation are dismissed and, in some cases, they are accused of collusion in the crimes.

Before the advent of chip and pin, British banks were more likely to write off fraud costs; now, however, they ask for proof that a customer did not disclose the pin.

Aren't you overreacting a tad? It wasn't a case of anything at all.
