My advice is that if you are suspicious of a device, enter the wrong PIN in the first instance. A genuine terminal will receive the correct response from the card (i.e. the PIN is incorrect) and ask you to re-enter it at which point you enter the correct PIN. This will reduce the chances that it's a fake transaction.
