County Court Judgement Register

Hi

Unfortunately I've recently got a CCJ and I was surprised to receive a letter through the post from a debt counselling company.

Obviously I have no intention of using them, but I'm curious as to where they get their information. According to the Registry Trust web page lists of judgements can be bought for 30p + VAT each.

Is there anywhere else that the judgements are published?

Or are there companies that supply lists of people with CCJ's?

Thanks

Peter

At 13:41:55 on 03/08/2005, Peter King delighted uk.finance by announcing:

CCJs are recorded on a public register maintained by Registry Trust Ltd. on behalf of the Lord Chancellor's office. They supply the data to the CRAs (Equifax, Experian etc.) and in turn it is provided to their clients (banks, loan companies etc.).

Since it is a public register, like the registers of births, deaths & marriages, anyone is entitled to view it. According to their FAQ you can pay £4.50 per search (or £4.00 if calling in person), or you "may buy all the information relating judgments against consumers or commercial enterprises or both for any particular court or county in England and Wales for 30p + VAT per judgment."

Crikey, I could buy them all for 30p and then re-sell them for 3.00, under-cutting their 4.00 price somewhat. ;)

But my questions were:

Is there anywhere else that the judgements are published?

Or are there companies that supply lists of people with CCJ's?
