credit card/bank accounts for people with a poor credit rating?????

I've recently moved into a new address and I've applied for various credit cards and bank accounts and I'm keep on getting refused. This is partly due to my own poor credit history but also due to the previous tenant who ran up massive debts on purpose with the intention of not paying them. In my defence, i was up to date with my credit card payments, until i fell seriously ill and was hospitalised and hence unable to go to the bank to pay my credit card payments, and so my cards got defaulted and my credit history damaged. So,does anyone in this group know of any UK banks/credit cards which have accounts that are easy to open for ppl with a poor credit history? I've already tried the ones advertised on the web for ppl with a poor credit rating,such as Aqua and Vanquis, and even they are refusing me. Also, the banks for ppl with a poor credit ratng, like the Cooperative bank and Natwest are also refusing me. So, I'd be interested in hearing if any acounts exist wehich might be open to me.
