Credit Scoring

I went to buy a new phone on contract. I gave them my details and I was rejected on vodafone. I then sign up with Orange and am accepted no problems. They then give me an offer which equates to a free deal after cashback on vodafone. I give them my business account number instead of my normal (student) one, and I am accepted.

This begs the question why was I rejected. I am on the electoral role, which is one of the first criteria that is checked. Could it be that they found that I had a negative balance on my student current account? I have a savings account linked to my student account which has over 10k, but as part of the student current account, I am given 1500 interest free overdraft throughout the length of my studies.

On my business account I am in the black. I have 3 other credit cards which I stupidly accepted when I opened up student bank accounts to take advantage of the 50 freebie. However I have never used those accounts or credit cards. I have 2 other mobile phone contracts. I have never had a problem paying by bills or had CCJs.

Can anyone see why vodaphone rejected me? I am under 22, and still live with my parents.

Every company has their own system of credit scoring. There is no central credit score so you had a higher enough score with one and not the other.

Get a copy of your credit file and you will see exactly what they see.

Maybe vodaphone don't like the fact that you have other contracts.

Each company will have it's own credit scoring system so it is impossible for us to tell.

Ask them.

The person at vodaphone may be stupid.
