While we're on the subject; at my workplace most of us know that if a card is swiped and "retain card" is shown the card issuer will pay a £50 reward once it is returned to them.
What we don't know is exactly where that £50 goes because none of the cashiers get to see a penny of it! When mentioned casually to managers they say it goes towards covering losses (eg. theft, fraud), there was however a rumour that it went towards paying for the annual management-only piss up.
Are there any rules as to what this reward-money is used for?
