why avoid TD Waterhouse?

This was from a personal experience. They began to charge inactivity fees and when I elected to close my account they tried to make various other charges in addition to those for return of share certificates. After countless telephone calls, mistakes and a lot of wasted time the task was completed.

I am sure for many they are fine but I am particularly sensitive to what I consider sharp practice.

Because they charge inactivity fees.

Our Investment club moved from TDW to ComDirect for this reason - and alos that ComDirect's dealing charges are less.

Their software packages and tools are excellent & I use em all the time even though I have my main a/c's with Comdirect and Finspreads.

Yes. I opened a Datek account years ago, that became an Ameritrade account. They charge(d) me $15 every three months. I finally got around to dealing with closing the account recently and it took ages as I had some junk stock in there. They charge $24.99 to manually remove each junk symbol ammount from an a/c, and I had two :-(

The (only) nice thing they did was to waive the $15 fee, as I had just been charged it when I was in the process of closing the account.

I had huge problems dealing with them (transferring money, time difference, my UK accent) and I think in the future I'll stick to a UK based broker.... and UK stocks ;-)

Mostly all my own fault, I know. You live and learn.
