Halifax on line banking

Hi,

Is it just me or is the Halifax / Bank of Scotland on-line access site down for everyone?

The main site works but as soon as I click on-line banking I get an error page.

I just had problems too (error page first few times), but perseverance gained access -- couple of times got partway in then it 'broke', but eventually managed to see relevant info.

comes up OK here.

I did notice on running through a demo that you can change the name and/or address on an account, as opposed to the Nationwide system which doesn't even show you any personal details.

Is it as easy to change a name or address as it looks ?

You can not change the name or address from within Halifax online, in fact you can't even see the address.

About all you can change (aprt from banking stuff like derect debits) is the email address and whether or not you get paper statements.

the online demo shows a menu on the left that clearly does allow changes to name and address - I just did it on the demo version, it responds "this will take 48 hours to take effect"

On further testing, you can change your address on the credit card account, change nothing on the bank account and change either name or address or both on the savings account. So it looks to be account type specific.

Anyone with a savings account (roll number starting 2/) confirm whether this is the case in the real thing ?

After further investigation your right, I can change the name and address on my savings account but not on my current account. Doesn't show your current address though.

To add further confusion it says "Please note that any changes made here will amend the details on your other Halifax accounts with the same title."

true.

I have concerns about the way Halifax manage address & contact details, they appear to tie everything together and changing one address (or name) applies the changes to all products including insurance, credit cards etc.

My concerns grow exponentially when it comes to joint accounts, as these seem to be tied to one person/address in the same way with the other party as some kind of appendage.

This name change thing looks a bit loose to me, an Identity Theft waiting to happen - get online access to someone's stuff, change the name to your name, go to branch with ID and withdraw the lot and close it down.

Seemed to sort itself out by mid afternoon, was showing "this page cannot be displayed".

I had a look and under my current account and it dosn't show the option but it does show under my Websaver a/c.

Not sure never tried to change it TBH.

thanks, I'm probably going to have to open one to test my hypothesis.

(The hypothesis being that an ID theft fraudster could gain access to an account, change the name and address to theirs and remove the contents)
