Heard of Creditcard Refunds Ltd?

Hi,

Anyone heard of the above company? I received a letter from them offering to retrieve money for people who paid for search engine adverts with Jini (Jsearch) in 02/03, which I did. Apparantly, ownership of Jini was transferred to someone else and then stripped. As payment was by personal credit card and not a business one, Creditcard Refunds Ltd are offering to claim the money back from the bank, for a 30% fee.

Creditcard Refunds' address is a box number in Manchester and have only been trading for a few months according to Companies House.

Any advice of further info would be much appreciated.

Thanks KS

You can claim the money back from the credit card company without their help.

I suspected this, however, I have no proof of what has happened to Jini, apart from dead websites, and according to Companies House they are still an active company. I'll be ringing the credit card company in the morning and see what they say.

Thanks KS

No, but some general comments ...

Do not send them any money! If they take the 30% from what they recover, then I guess you have nothing to lose (assuming you have written the debt off and are not pursuing it yourself), however make SURE you lose nothing by not giving them security details, advance fees, bank details or anything else they don't actually need.

You could, of course, just ask your credit card company for a refund if you failed to get the goods/services you paid for, and the amount you spent falls within the limits for the card issuer to be liable.

Only if it's for above 100.

Is that the law? I have had at least one refund (from Marbles) for something I ordered that was about a tenner that was never delivered.

100 per transaction is the lower limit under section 75 CCA 1974. Perhaps the 10 claim was merely a goodwill gesture?

Good common-sense advice. So far all they want is a copy of the original invoice.

I will be following this up, although it might be difficult proving it in this case. CR Ltd's argument is that they have a number of people on their books in the same situation, which lends weight to them taking it to the credit card company.
