Help wth delinquent UK debts, I live in Canada

I owe circa 20,000 UK Pounds between 3 credit cards and a personal loan that I am interested in paying off. I lived in the UK till 3yrs ago when I miigrated to Canada, run into financial difficulty, so fell behind in above debts which went into collection. I am now gainlfully employed and would like some advise how best to arrange a settlement figure with each debtor. I cannot use an IVA (Voluntary Agreeement) since I no longer reisde and earn in the UK. Any anyone knows of a solictior or company that can represent me help pay off the debts please let me know. I do not want to give the debtors my foreign address, but intend to pay them off, with preferably the help of someone in the UK. I have been sending the minumum agreed on each debt, which will take eternity to pay them off, however have been able to secure finance here in Canada to help pay. Please advise. The other problem I have been having is, it is difficulkt and expensive to send money from Canada to the UK to several different debtors. Thanks

Any solicitor who got involved in this would fall foul of the existing money laundering regulations, let alone the new ones (not yet published)

Could be. Though he is posting out of the states:

Comcast Cable Communications, Inc.

3 Executive Campus 5th Floor Cherry Hill, NJ, 08002 US

Probably just an American server or something......

Have you tried to contact the creditors directly and see what they say?

Stephen.

It does not sound unreasonable to pay back his debts in the uk, assuming he is intending to return.

Or at lease try to set things up so he minimises the charges.

One accountant I knew used to phone up and tell the company who was owed that "he is pennyless but his parents have offered to give a one off payment x in full and final settlement of the debt". He used to often get settlements like 5000 for a 25 k debt.

I believe that there are solicitors and other companies that specialise in this sort of thing.

I would have thought that there is a good scope for negotiation as the companies will think (perhaps correctly) that if they don't negotiate they will not get anything.

Thanks Jon, do you have the contact of this accountant, or any such accountants/solicitors?
